What keeps you going?

People are at home for many different reasons. Physical chronic illness, PTSD, moderate to severe mental illness, caretaking children or the elderly. For one reason or another they are not going out to work, but may work at home with kids or family.

When someone is at home 24/7, there can be a lack of connection with other folks. This can be very different than when you work on an office or on a job site. So what does one do to not go completely stir crazy?

For me it’s projects, mostly creative in nature, but they give me a sense of contributing to my household. Taking every day with purpose. Whether it’s gardening season (which is all year round); or household chores; or parrot care and interaction. Taking each day with purpose, even keeping a schedule, helps me feel that sense of contribution, and stops me from thinking my role in the world is less than others’.

Finding a sense of community and adult connection is important, whether it’s a “Meetup” group or volunteering even a few hours a week will definitely help.

What is it that keeps you going at home?
